Route guide
Leaving Kuwait City, the road to Jeddah reaches the Saudi border at Al Nuwaiseeb / Al Khafji within a short drive, then crosses the Kingdom to the Red Sea. It is around 1,500 km. Families heading to Jeddah for holidays, people going on to Umrah and those moving to the west coast with their belongings book it most. A Kuwaiti driver takes you to the border, and a Saudi driver handles the long leg west.

Count on roughly 19 hours of driving and border time, so we recommend an overnight stop. The border sits early in the day, so its queue sets the pace for the rest. After that it is long highway driving with rest stops, and traffic around Riyadh and into Jeddah can add time.
For journeys of this length, we generally recommend splitting the trip into two days with an overnight stop, typically in Riyadh. This allows for a more comfortable and well-paced journey. However, it is also possible to complete the transfer in one continuous trip if preferred.
Border crossing process
Al Nuwaiseeb / Al Khafji
Your next driver meets you at the agreed handover point at the border. We confirm the exact point with you before the trip.
- 1Your Kuwaiti driver takes you to the Al Nuwaiseeb exit post
- 2Kuwaiti exit passport control
- 3Saudi entry at Al Khafji: passport, visa and customs checks
- 4Your next driver meets you at the agreed handover point and continues to Jeddah
A second vehicle with a fresh driver will be waiting after the border to continue your journey. The entire process is coordinated in advance to minimise waiting times and ensure a seamless experience.
The day, leg by leg
- Kuwait City to Al Nuwaiseeb with your Kuwaiti driver.
- Kuwait exit, then the handover at Al Khafji, at a point we confirm before the trip.
- Saudi entry and customs, where your Saudi driver is waiting.
- The long run west, with rest stops and an optional night in Riyadh.
- Final stretch into Jeddah and drop‑off at your door.
Getting your Saudi paperwork right
Since you enter Saudi Arabia early in the trip, sort your visa before the day. Saudi e-visas are available online for many nationalities, and GCC nationals move freely. Check the rules for your passport, and if anyone in your group holds a different nationality, check theirs too. Visa costs are not included in the fare.
