Route guide
From Dammam, this route heads west across Saudi Arabia to Jeddah on the Red Sea, passing Riyadh along the way. Because it never leaves the Kingdom, one car and one driver handle the entire 1,300 km. Eastern Province residents heading to the coast for a holiday, families visiting relatives and staff relocating to Jeddah all book it. Most clients split it over two days. A same-day drive is possible on request with two drivers.
Travel time & distance
Duration
~12–13 hours
Distance
~1,300 km
Driving time is about 12-13 hours. Traffic around Dammam and Al Khobar in the morning, and around Riyadh mid-journey, can stretch it. Most travellers take a couple of rest stops, and some add an overnight in Riyadh to arrive in Jeddah fresh.
For journeys of this length, we generally recommend splitting the trip into two days with an overnight stop, typically in Riyadh. This allows for a more comfortable and well-paced journey. However, it is also possible to complete the transfer in one continuous trip if preferred.
What to bring for a full day on the road
- A neck pillow and something to read, or films downloaded to watch offline.
- Phone chargers and a power bank for the long stretches.
- Snacks you like, on top of the water we provide.
- Any medication in your hand luggage, not packed away in the boot.
- A light jacket or scarf for the air conditioning.
Timing around Ramadan, Eid and weekends
Demand on Saudi highways rises before Eid and at the start of school holidays, and the roads into Jeddah get busier. If your dates fall around these periods, book early and allow a little extra time. During Ramadan, many travellers prefer to leave after iftar and drive through the cooler night. We are happy to plan the departure around your schedule.
