    Route guide

From Dubai, this route runs west through Abu Dhabi to the Saudi border, then right across the Kingdom to Jeddah on the Red Sea. At around 2,000 km it is a serious trip, chosen by people moving to Jeddah with their belongings, families visiting relatives and travellers who would rather see the country than an airport lounge. A UAE driver takes you to Al Ghuwaifat and a Saudi driver continues from Al Batha.

    Travel time & distance

    Duration

    ~2 days recommended

    Distance

    ~2,000 km

Expect roughly 24 to 25 hours of driving and border time, so we recommend an overnight stop. Leaving Dubai before the morning traffic helps, and the border usually adds 30 to 60 minutes or more at busy times. Splitting the journey in Riyadh makes it far easier on everyone.

For journeys of this length, we generally recommend splitting the trip into two days with an overnight stop, typically in Riyadh. This allows for a more comfortable and well-paced journey. However, it is also possible to complete the transfer in one continuous trip if preferred.

    Driving vs flying to Jeddah

The flight from Dubai to Jeddah is around 3 hours, and door to door it is quicker than driving by a wide margin. The road makes sense for different reasons: you can take as much luggage as the vehicle holds, travel with pets or bulky items, stop in Riyadh on the way, and arrive at your door rather than an arrivals hall. For relocations, that often outweighs the extra time.

    One long day or two?

An overnight stop in Riyadh splits the drive into two manageable days. Two days, with a night in Riyadh, is what we usually recommend. It breaks the trip at a sensible point, gives you a proper bed and means you reach Jeddah in daylight rather than late at night.

    Frequently asked questions

Most clients split this drive over two days with an overnight stop. A same-day drive is possible on request with two drivers.

No. On this route, passengers normally change vehicles at the border. You complete immigration and customs formalities at each post, and your next driver is waiting for you on the other side.

What travel documents do I need?

You must carry a valid passport and meet the visa or entry requirements for Saudi Arabia. We recommend checking the latest requirements before travelling.

Can I be picked up from the airport?

Yes. Airport pickup can be arranged where relevant, along with hotel, residence, and office pickup.

If flights are impacted, Platinumride can arrange private cross-border ground transfers between major Gulf hubs as a reliable alternative to air travel.

How much is a private transfer from Dubai to Jeddah?

Are visas included in the price?

No. Visas and entry fees are paid by the traveller. Fuel, tolls and border assistance are included. The taxi between the two border posts at Al Ghuwaifat and Al Batha, if you choose it instead of the free shuttle bus, is also paid locally.

Can I bring a lot of luggage?
