    Route guide

Jeddah to Kuwait crosses Saudi Arabia from the Red Sea to the northern Gulf, about 1,500 km, ending at the Al Khafji / Al Nuwaiseeb border and a short run up to Kuwait City. Kuwaiti families returning from the west coast, workers relocating and travellers who want to keep their luggage with them are typical passengers. Your Saudi driver covers the long leg and a second driver meets you on the Kuwaiti side.

    Travel time & distance

    Duration

    ~2 days recommended

    Distance

    ~1,500 km

The trip takes roughly 19 hours of driving and border time. Jeddah traffic at the start, the Riyadh area mid-journey and the Saudi-Kuwait border queue are the main variables. We generally suggest a night in Riyadh. A same-day drive is possible on request with two drivers.

For journeys of this length, we generally recommend splitting the trip into two days with an overnight stop, typically in Riyadh. This allows for a more comfortable and well-paced journey. However, it is also possible to complete the transfer in one continuous trip if preferred.

    Breaking the trip in Riyadh

Riyadh is the obvious overnight stop on this route. It splits the distance into two manageable days and gives you a proper night's sleep before the border. You arrange the hotel; we arrange the pick‑up the next morning and the onward drive north-east to Al Khafji.

    Border crossing process

    Al Khafji / Al Nuwaiseeb

Your next driver meets you at the agreed handover point at the border. We confirm the exact point with you before the trip.

    1. 1Your Saudi driver takes you to the Al Khafji exit post
    2. 2Saudi exit passport control
    3. 3Kuwaiti entry at Al Nuwaiseeb: passport, visa and customs checks
    4. 4Your next driver meets you at the agreed handover point and continues to Kuwait

A second vehicle with a fresh driver will be waiting after the border to continue your journey. The entire process is coordinated in advance to minimise waiting times and ensure a seamless experience.

See our GCC border crossings reference

Crossing into Kuwait at Al Nuwaiseeb

Your Saudi driver drops you at the Al Khafji exit post. You clear Saudi exit, take your luggage and continue to the Kuwaiti post at Al Nuwaiseeb. Once Kuwait entry and customs are done, your second driver is waiting and the final stretch to Kuwait City is short. Have your passport and any Kuwait visa paperwork easy to reach.

    Jeddah pick‑up, Kuwait drop‑off

We pick up in Jeddah from Al Hamra, Al Rawdah, the Corniche, Obhur and King Abdulaziz International Airport (JED). On the Kuwaiti side we drop off in Kuwait City, Salmiya, Jabriya, Sharq or at Kuwait International Airport (KWI).
