    Route guide

Jeddah to Muscat is one of the longest routes we drive, roughly 2,300 km from the Red Sea to the Gulf of Oman. It suits relocations and long family journeys where flying with everything is impractical. Three dedicated vehicles cover it: a Saudi car from Jeddah, a UAE car after Al Batha and an Omani car after the UAE-Oman border. At each handover you clear passport control and your next driver is waiting; at Al Batha you cross between the posts by free shuttle bus or taxi.

    Travel time & distance

    Duration

    ~2 days recommended

    Distance

    ~2,300 km

Expect roughly 29 hours of travel, including two border crossings and rest stops. We recommend breaking the trip with a night in Riyadh. That leaves the second day for the Al Batha crossing, the drive across the Emirates, the Oman border and the final run into Muscat.

For journeys of this length, we generally recommend splitting the trip into two days with an overnight stop, typically in Riyadh. This allows for a more comfortable and well-paced journey. However, it is also possible to complete the transfer in one continuous trip if preferred.

    Planning the night in Riyadh

Riyadh is the natural place to break the journey. The second day is the heavier one, with both border crossings, so arriving rested makes a real difference. Tell us your hotel when you book and we will set the morning pick‑up from there. Families in particular find two days far easier than a single stretch of around 29 hours.

    Border crossing process

Saudi Arabia → UAE → Oman

This route crosses 2 borders, each with its own arrangement. At Al Batha / Al Ghuwaifat: Your first driver takes you to the exit post. After passport control, you cross to the other post by free shuttle bus or by taxi (about SAR 300-400, paid locally). Your second driver is waiting on the other side. At Hatta / Al Wajajah: After exit control, a shuttle bus takes you between the two posts (a small fee may apply for the last leg, paid locally). Your next driver is waiting just past the border.

    Frequently asked questions

How long does the Jeddah to Muscat transfer take?

Most clients split this drive over two days with an overnight stop. A same-day drive is possible on request with two drivers.

Do I stay in the same vehicle at the border?

No. This is a multi-country route with vehicle handovers at two border crossings.

What travel documents do I need?

You must carry a valid passport and meet the visa or entry requirements for the UAE and Oman.

Can I be picked up from the airport?

Yes. Airport pickup can be arranged where relevant, along with hotel, residence, and office pickup.

    What if flights are impacted?

If flights are impacted, Platinumride can arrange private cross-border ground transfers between major Gulf hubs as a reliable alternative to air travel.

How much is a private transfer from Jeddah to Muscat?

A sedan is from SAR 9,700, an SUV from SAR 14,100, a van from SAR 16,000 and a luxury sedan car from SAR 17,000. The fare is for the vehicle, not per head, and the final price depends on your exact pick‑up and drop‑off.

Can we do it in one go?

We don't recommend it. At around 29 hours of driving and border time, we plan the trip over two days with an overnight stop in Riyadh.

How many suitcases can we bring?

It depends on the vehicle. Two large cases suit a sedan; for a family move, the SUV or van makes more sense. Suitcases you can wheel yourself make each handover easier.

    What does the fare include?

Fuel, tolls, border assistance, rest stops, water and refreshments, and three dedicated vehicles. Visas and entry fees are extra. The taxi between the two border posts at Al Ghuwaifat and Al Batha, if you choose it instead of the free shuttle bus, is also paid locally.

Can I book Muscat to Jeddah?

Yes. Starting from Muscat, that trip is quoted in AED. Muscat to Jeddah
