    Route guide

Jeddah to Doha crosses almost the whole width of Saudi Arabia, from the Red Sea coast to the Gulf. It suits families relocating, travellers with more luggage than an airline will take, and anyone who wants to keep the same car and driver for the full 1,550 km. There is no vehicle change at Salwa and Abu Samra. We plan it with a night in Riyadh.

    Travel time & distance

    Duration

    ~2 days recommended

    Distance

    ~1,550 km

The trip is roughly 20 hours of driving and border time, so we recommend an overnight stop. Most of the distance is the run from Jeddah to Riyadh. After that, the highway east to Salwa and the border formalities make up the rest. Rest stops and the time you reach the border both affect the total.

For journeys of this length, we generally recommend splitting the trip into two days with an overnight stop, typically in Riyadh. This allows for a more comfortable and well-paced journey. However, it is also possible to complete the transfer in one continuous trip if preferred.

    Splitting the trip in Riyadh

Day one takes you from Jeddah across the desert to Riyadh, the longer of the two legs. You sleep there, then day two heads east to the Salwa border and on into Doha. The same car and driver stay with you on both days. Tell us where you are staying in Riyadh and the second morning starts from that hotel's door.

    Border crossing process

    Salwa / Abu Samra

This route involves a direct land crossing between Qatar and Saudi Arabia via the Abu Samra border. The journey is completed in the same vehicle, with no vehicle change required.

    3. 3Complete Qatar entry procedures at Abu Samra
    4. 4Same vehicle continues to Doha

Crossing at Salwa and Abu Samra

    • Saudi exit formalities at Salwa, with your driver handling the vehicle papers
    • Qatar entry at Abu Samra a short distance on, where passports are checked and customs may look at the car
    • No change of car, so the luggage stays loaded from Jeddah to Doha
    • Check the Qatar entry rules for each passport before you travel, and keep documents in the cabin

Pick‑up in Jeddah, drop‑off in Doha

We collect from King Abdulaziz International Airport (JED), Al Hamra, Al Rawdah, the Corniche, Obhur and Al Balad. In Qatar we drop at Hamad International Airport (DOH), West Bay, The Pearl, Lusail, Msheireb and Al Waab.
