Route guide
From the Red Sea coast to the Gulf, Jeddah to Bahrain crosses the full width of Saudi Arabia. It is one of the longest routes we drive, and one of the few long ones in a single car: the same vehicle and driver go all the way, over the King Fahd Causeway and into Bahrain. People book it for relocations, for long trips with heavy luggage, and when they would rather see the country than fly over it.
Travel time & distance
Duration
~13–14 hours
Distance
~1,300 km
The drive takes around 13 to 14 hours. Most of it is Saudi highway, and the causeway formalities come at the very end, taking longer on weekends and holidays. We generally suggest splitting the trip with a night in Riyadh, though it can be done in one go.
For journeys of this length, we generally recommend splitting the trip into two days with an overnight stop, typically in Riyadh. This allows for a more comfortable and well-paced journey. However, it is also possible to complete the transfer in one continuous trip if preferred.
Splitting the journey in Riyadh
A night in Riyadh turns the trip into two manageable days. Day one is the longer leg, Jeddah to the capital, roughly 8 to 9 hours with rest stops. Day two covers Riyadh to Bahrain, around 5 hours including the causeway. It is also possible to drive straight through if you prefer to arrive the same day. Tell us which you want when booking and we will plan the timings with you.
Relocating from Jeddah to Bahrain
- The van takes far more than a flight allowance, with no excess baggage fees.
- Your bags stay in one vehicle the whole way, including across the causeway.
- The fare is per vehicle, so a family pays once, not per person.
- Child seats are free on request for the younger passengers.
Border crossing process
King Fahd Causeway
This route crosses the King Fahd Causeway between Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. Unlike other borders, the journey is completed in the same vehicle, without a vehicle change.
- 1Driver takes you from Jeddah through Saudi Arabia's highway network to the King Fahd Causeway
- 2Complete Saudi exit and Bahrain entry formalities
- 3Same vehicle continues into Bahrain
At the King Fahd Causeway
In most cases you stay with your car and driver through the causeway. Saudi exit and Bahraini entry are both handled there, and your driver knows the lanes and the paperwork. Have passports within reach and check the entry rules for your passport before you travel. Traffic heading into Bahrain builds on weekend evenings and holidays, so crossing earlier in the day usually helps.
Pick‑up in Jeddah, drop‑off in Bahrain
We collect across Jeddah, including Al Hamra, the Corniche, Obhur and King Abdulaziz International Airport (JED). In Bahrain, drop‑off can be in Manama, Seef, Juffair, Muharraq, Amwaj Islands or at Bahrain International Airport (BAH), wherever your new home or hotel is.
Travel documents & customs requirements
Passengers are responsible for valid passports, visas and entry permits, and compliance with customs rules in every country on the route.
