    Route guide

Starting on the island, this transfer crosses the King Fahd Causeway and then runs coast to coast across Saudi Arabia to Jeddah. You stay with the same car and driver from your door in Bahrain to your address on the Red Sea. Families visiting relatives or heading west for the holidays book it, as do residents moving with a lot of luggage and groups who would rather share one vehicle than buy several flights.

    Travel time & distance

    Duration

    ~13–14 hours

    Distance

    ~1,300 km

Plan for 13 to 14 hours on the road. The causeway comes first, so timing on the Bahrain side matters: an early departure avoids the heaviest queues. After that it is a long highway drive west through Riyadh, with regular rest stops. Many passengers break the trip with a night in Riyadh.

For journeys of this length, we generally recommend splitting the trip into two days with an overnight stop, typically in Riyadh. This allows for a more comfortable and well-paced journey. However, it is also possible to complete the transfer in one continuous trip if preferred.

    Leg by leg

    • Bahrain to Riyadh, including the causeway formalities: around 5 hours, depending mostly on the queue.
    • Riyadh to Jeddah: the long leg, roughly 8 to 9 hours with rest stops on the Saudi highway.
    • Overnight option: stop in Riyadh after the first leg and set off for Jeddah the next morning.
    • Straight through: possible if you would rather arrive the same day, with breaks along the way.

Is it worth driving instead of flying?

For one person with a carry-on, flying is quicker. The drive wins in other cases: a family that would need four or five tickets, a move with boxes and suitcases, or travellers who want a night in Riyadh on the way. Because the price is per vehicle, the cost per head drops as the car fills up. You also skip airline baggage allowances and the airport runs at both ends.
