    Route guide

Jeddah to Abu Dhabi crosses almost the full width of Saudi Arabia, from the Red Sea to the Gulf. At around 1,900 km, most people treat it as a planned move rather than a quick hop: families relocating, residents heading home with a boot full of luggage, or travellers who would rather not fly. You're collected at your door in Jeddah, change cars at the Saudi-UAE border, and a second driver takes you to your address in Abu Dhabi.

    Travel time & distance

    Duration

    ~2 days recommended

    Distance

    ~1,900 km

Plan for roughly 23 to 24 hours of driving and border time, best split with an overnight stop. The long Saudi stretch makes up most of it, and the Saudi exit at Al Batha plus UAE entry at Al Ghuwaifat can add or save an hour depending on queues. Rest stops and Jeddah traffic on departure account for the rest.

For journeys of this length, we generally recommend splitting the trip into two days with an overnight stop, typically in Riyadh. This allows for a more comfortable and well-paced journey. However, it is also possible to complete the transfer in one continuous trip if preferred.

    One day or two?

Most travellers on this route break the journey with an overnight stop, usually in Riyadh, which splits the drive into two manageable days. You reach Abu Dhabi rested, and nobody is behind the wheel for an unreasonable stretch. Tell us which you prefer when you enquire and we'll plan the timings around it.

    Border crossing process

    Al Batha → Al Ghuwaifat

Your first driver takes you to the exit post. After passport control, you cross to the other post by free shuttle bus or by taxi (about SAR 300-400, paid locally). Your second driver is waiting on the other side.

    3. 3Cross to the UAE post at Al Ghuwaifat by free shuttle bus or taxi (about SAR 300-400, paid locally)
    4. 4UAE entry: passport, visa and customs checks
    5. 5Your UAE driver meets you and continues to Abu Dhabi

A second vehicle with a fresh driver will be waiting after the border to continue your journey. The entire process is coordinated in advance to minimise waiting times and ensure a seamless experience.

At the border with your luggage

Your first driver brings you to the Saudi exit post at Al Batha. From there you clear exit control and cross to the UAE post by free shuttle bus or taxi. Once you're through UAE entry at Al Ghuwaifat, your second driver is waiting to load up and continue to Abu Dhabi.

Good to have ready before you leave Jeddah

    • Passports and any UAE entry documents, in a bag that rides with you rather than in the boot
    • Some AED or SAR in cash in case you take a taxi between the two border posts
    • Snacks, a charging cable and something to read for the long desert stretch
    • Your flight number if we're collecting you from JED
    • Any child seat requests, which cost nothing extra

Can I book the return from Abu Dhabi?

Yes, the same corridor runs in the other direction as its own transfer. Abu Dhabi to Jeddah
